7 Reasons Why You Should Give Thanks To Your Cats

Thanksgiving with cats is the best kind of Thanksgiving we could wish for. Cats paw their way into our lives with the sole purpose of stealing our hearts. In return, they give us much more than we could ever hope for. So, here are the top 7 reasons why you need to give thanks to your cat this year. Happy Thanksgiving hoomans!

1. They bring a tremendous amount of love into our lives

When a cat loves, it loves with all of its heart. Their love is unconditional and lasts a lifetime. You, however, must first earn this love. It is too big of a gift to be given to just anyone. Cats are selective and smart. They carefully choose that one hooman worthy of their love. And you, you're the lucky one. Your cat chose you! Every time they give you a nose bump, rub themselves against your leg or jump into your lap for a pet – your heart melts – and for a good reason. This love is pure, fulfilling and very precious.

2. They teach us that it's OK to be yourself

Cats are known to have a voice of their own and they are not afraid to use it. They know exactly what they want and they will find a way to get it. Unlike us, mere hoomans, they won't allow the opinions and expectations of others to stand in their way. They are true to themselves at all times and they accept only those hoomans who will love them for who they are. They let us know that it is OK to be yourself. And - at least around them - we are.

3. They take care of us

You are just a hooman. You need your cat's help to purr you to sleep, to cuddle and keep you warm, and to unravel your toilet paper roll, so that it is always within reach. And they’ll proudly step up to serve you with all of those things!

Furthermore, there is now scientific evidence showing that cats reduce stress and improve your overall health health as well! "Recent research has shown that the soothing sounds of a kitty can aid your body […] because their purrs fluctuate between 20-140 Hz, a frequency range which has been proven to be medically therapeutic." - explained Kelli Bender. Purrs help lower stress, blood pressure, effects of dyspnea and depression. They promote healing of infections, bones and muscles. Who could ever take better care of you? Not to mention all the gifts they bring you that you didn't even know you needed!

4. They tolerate our hooman flaws

Despite your humanity, your cat loves you endlessly and unconditionally. You walk on only two feet, you are a terrible hunter and you behave quite strangely in general. Yet, cats still allow you to hug, pet and cuddle them – as long as you respect their boundaries. Sometimes they even push these limits and let you dress them up in ridiculous costumes. Now, that's called love.

5. They bring laughter into our homes

Cats embody the spirit of our homes. They never fail to find yet another way to entertain us. And what is happiness if not a house filled with laughter? Whether your cat is a mischievous climber, a courageous toy hunter or a clumsy ball of fluffiness, they are all exceptionally skilled in cheering you up after a long day.

6. They make us more responsible

Without your cat, you wouldn't need to clean as much nor worry about your cat's food, water, litter and toys. You would leave your things around the house wherever, and your home would not be cat-proofed. Having a cat comes with great responsibilities and you have to keep up. So far, so good. A good indication, your cat keeps you on top of your game!

7. Yet they also take time to help us with our chores

Cats are generous and will take time from their busy days to help you out when you need it. They gladly lay on the keyboard while you're on your computer and knock things that you’ll need later over . What would you do without them, really?

Happy Thanksgiving dear Basepaws readers! This year we thank all the cats for being our furriends and companions and for bringing love, happiness and purrs into our lives. Why do you give thanks for your cat this season?
