The KIT gene plays a possible role in white spotting of solid-colored canine coats. Mutations to this gene have also been noted to cause white spotting in other domesticated animals. This is loss of function mutation of the KIT gene, which causes white spotting on the face, ventral abdomen, feet, and tip of tail.
