Agouti Signaling Protein (ASIP) gene interacts with the MC1R gene. This interaction controls pigment-switching in dogs between red pigment (phaeomelanin) and black pigment (eumelanin) and affects the type of pigments that occur in a dog, their amount, and their distribution in a dog's coat.
