Polyneuropathy, NDRG1-related, is an early-onset progressive polyneuropathy. Polyneuropathy is characterized by the degeneration of the nerves in the body, primarily in the hind limbs and larynx.
NDRG1
Autosomal recessive
Clinical signs of this disease include weakness of the hind limbs, exercise intolerance, muscle atrophy, and loud respiration or difficulty breathing due to laryngeal paralysis. Signs develop from 7 to 18 months of age.
A veterinarian will conduct a thorough exam, including a review of health history and any clinical signs. Neurological tests, including imaging, may be required for a definitive diagnosis. Genetic testing is necessary to determine an underlying genetic cause.
