A variant in Keratin-71 (KRT71) gene is responsible for curly or wavy coats in dogs. This trait is thought to most likely be inherited as an incomplete dominant trait. This means that if two copies of this variant are inherited, a dog will have a curly coat. If one copy of this variant is obtained, a dog will have a wavy coat.
